Job Summary
The purpose of this classification is to perform routine field collection and laboratory testing/analysis of water samples from various sources to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
Essential Functions
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a county vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
Supplemental information
Individuals hired into temporary positions for a period of less than six months, volunteers and interns are not benefit eligible. Temporary employees hired for longer than six months may be eligible for Florida Retirement System Benefits as well as others required by law.

The purpose of this classification is to perform routine field collection and laboratory testing/analysis of water samples from various sources to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
Essential Functions
- Collects water samples from monitoring wells, wastewater treatment facilities, or other locations.
- Prepares microbiological media, reagents, and standards used in analytical testing.
- Performs analytical testing for ammonia, carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD), fecal coliform, nitrate, total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), or other parameters.
- Performs quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure the integrity of samples and test results.
- Maintains logs, charts, computer records, and other records of sampling activities, laboratory analysis, testing results, or other activities in compliance with regulatory and laboratory certification requirements.
- Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with laboratory operations, which may include a scale/balance, nanopure water system, de-ionized water system, autoclave, spectrophotometer, pH meter, auto analyzer, or other laboratory instrumentation or sampling equipment.
- Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition.

- Vocational/Technical degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
- One (1) year of previous experience and/or training that includes routine environmental laboratory operations and analysis, environmental field sampling, and/or water or wastewater utility operations.
- Candidates without a related degree should possess an additional one (1) year of related experience.
- Fingerprinting required.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a county vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.

- Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
