What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at College of the Atlantic?
- Summary
Operating under broad guidelines from the Chief Facilities and Safety Officer and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the overall cleanliness and safety of all campus buildings.
Essential job functions
- Cleans academic buildings, including waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms and common areas
- Assists with garbage and recycling disposal
- Assists in the setup and breakdown of special events
- Maintains the inventory of cleaning supplies needed for assigned spaces and orders supplies through the Head Custodian
- Assists Buildings and Grounds department with minor repairs, such as changing light bulbs
- Reports all maintenance problems to the Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds
- Assists the Buildings & Grounds department with winter conditions when necessary
- Supervises work-study students in custodial work
- Actively participates in the COA community by attending meetings such as the All College Meeting, staff or trustee meetings as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of six months of related experience
- Sensitive to and awareness of different cultures, as well as the ability to interact successfully with college students and their families
- Ability to accomplish work priorities and meet changing expectations
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
