9 Month Faculty


The role of the Instructor, Welding Technology is to provide knowledge in his/her field of expertise and to promote various student-centered learning activities that will stimulate an interest in critical thinking and a desire for life-long learning. Various teaching strategies, learning styles, and delivery methods including new technology systems will be utilized to reach this goal.
 
 The Instructor, Welding receives supervision from the Program Coordinator, Welding Technology.Instruction/Teaching:
These duties are focused on the direct delivery of education, curriculum development, and maintaining and effective learning environment.
  • Prepare, teach, and evaluate courses in all aspects of welding fabrication and repair, to include: safety, trade math, blueprint reading, and various welding processes (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and cutting processes).
  • Update course syllabi to reflect changes each term as needed.
  • Develop supplemental teaching materials to augment courses.
  • Implement new teaching strategies as appropriate.
  • Integrate new technology in a variety of instructional delivery methods: Web-conferencing, F2F and Internet.
  • Evaluate textbooks for relevancy, quality and currency, making recommendations as necessary per established policy.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' attendance and performance.
  • Remains current with industry technology, standards, and software.
  • Submit student data and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Adhere to assigned teaching load/hours.
  • Keep students advised of their progress in class.
  • Make recommendations for assigned courses based on evaluation criteria/process.
  • Make recommendations for new courses per constraints of common course library and/or NCCCS guidelines.
  • Maintain a hazard-free environment and practice safety in the lab and classroom, adhering to AWS and OSHA standards.
  • Supply information/data for the annual department budget based on stated goals.
  • Submit requests for academic orders and supplies to the Program Coordinator.
  • Participate in development of curriculum course schedule.
  • Participate in planning to identify needed courses (current and future).
  • Participate in annual review of instructional program: Student Learning Outcome and Unit Action Plan.
  • Adhere to/enforce policies and procedures related to academic area.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in the academic field.
Advising:
These duties revolve around directly supporting and guiding assigned students through their academic journey.
  • Provide guidance and advice to assigned student advisees.
  • Register advisees.
  • Maintains weekly office hours per college guidelines.
  • Attend advisement workshops and remain current in new technologies regarding registration.
  • Write letters of recommendation for students on request, if appropriate.
  • Incorporate retention strategies to encourage students to stay in programs.
Other Duties:
These duties encompass professional development, institutional service, and fulfilling collegial responsibilities.
  • Implement college goals as related to the instructional area.
  • Participate in the management of the instructional area of the College, to include the development, implementation and evaluation of goals, objectives, activities and operations.
  • Assist with faculty recruitment, orientation, and mentoring.
  • Participate in student recruitment activities.
  • Participate in professional development, as appropriate, as related to instructional area, new teaching methods, new technology and professional organizations - locally, statewide, and nationally.
  • Request funding necessary to participate in professional development activities.
  • Participate in activities that enhance the college mission.
  • Participate in the college's Institutional Effectiveness Plan.
  • Participate in Faculty Senate or shared governance.
  • Serve on college's standing committees and ad hoc committees, as requested.
  • Attend Fall/Spring Convocations, graduations and other college meetings as scheduled.
  • Serve as advisor to student clubs or organizations, as appropriate.
  • Participate in administrative activities related student admissions, progression and graduation, as requested.
  • Adhere to college's policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Demonstrated competencies in a variety of areas related to welding fabrication, inspection, and repair.
  • At least two years of work experience in the field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to life up to 30lbs.

  Preferred

  • American Welding Society (AWS) certification(s) such as Certified Welder (CW) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • Certificate,  Diploma, Associate's or Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Five years of welding experience.
  • Teaching experience in the the welding trade.

 

Required:

  • Knowledge of current welding codes (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Possess basic computer skills.

Desired:

  • Knowledge in the use of computers and software availability, particularly for instructional puposes.
  • Knowledge/certifications in Robotic Welding or Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
