Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

The role of the Full-Time Instructor, Health Fitness Science/Health and Physical Education is to provide knowledge in his/her field of expertise and to promote various student-centered learning activities that will stimulate an interest in critical thinking and a desire for life-long learning. Various teaching strategies, learning styles, and delivery methods including new technology systems will be utilized to reach this goal.

The position receives supervision from Program Coordinator, Health Fitness Science, Health/Physical Education, and the Dean, Health Sciences and Wellness Programs.
  • Implement college goals as related to instructional area.
  • Prepare, teach, and evaluate assigned instructional courses (classroom, lab, clinical).
  • Teach evening classes, classes at other campuses and/or off-site locations, distance education classes, Internet classes or hybrid classes based on instructional and/or staffing needs as required.
  • Update course syllabi to reflect changes.
  • Develop supplemental teaching materials to augment courses.
  • Implement new teaching strategies as appropriate.
  • Evaluate textbooks for relevancy, quality and currency, making recommendations as necessary per established policy.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' attendance and performance.
  • Submit reports in accurate and timely manner.
  • Participate in development of curriculum course schedule.
  • Participate in planning to identify needed courses (current and future).
  • Adhere to assigned teaching load/hours.
  • Make recommendations for assigned courses based on evaluation criteria/process.
  • Make recommendations for new courses per constraints of common course library and/or NCCCS guidelines.
  • Integrate new technology in instructional delivery methods.
  • Participate in development, implementation and evaluation of goals and objectives for instructional area of the College.
  • Participate in development, implementation and evaluation of the activities and operations of the instructional area of the College.
  • Participate in annual review of instructional program.
  • Supply information/data for the annual department budget based on stated goals.
  • Adhere to/enforce policies and procedures related to academic area.
  • Integrate teaching methods that are student oriented/student focused.
  • Submit requests for academic orders, maintains and requests repairs/replacement for equipment/supplies.
  • Maintain a hazard-free environment and practices safety in classroom.
  • Provide guidance and advice to assigned student advisees.
  • Register advisees.
  • Maintain weekly office hours per college guidelines or as designated by off-campus assigned location.
  • Attend advisement workshops and remains current in new technologies regarding registration.
  • Keep students advised of their progress in class.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in academic field.
  • Learn and use appropriate college procedures (i.e. Watermark, Maxient) to provide alerts to the Student Success and Enrollment Management (SSEM) department for academic and behavioral concerns.
  • Understand Title IX regulations as they apply to the College setting and follows proper procedures in reporting concerns or violations.
  • Understand Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) laws and keeps student information and records confidential.
  • Inform supervisor if a class must be missed/changed and completes Course Modification and appropriate leave forms.
  • Participate in professional development, as appropriate, as related to:
    1. instructional area
    2. new teaching methods
    3. new technology
    4. professional organizations - locally, statewide, and nationally.
  • Request funding necessary to participate in professional development activities.
  • Adhere to College policies and procedures.
  • Serve on College standing committees and ad hoc committees as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
      Required:
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education or a related discipline from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Credentials to meet accreditation criteria for teaching assignments.
Preferred:
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level
  • Online teaching experience
  • Nationally accredited Personal Training and Group Fitness certifications
  • Health/Fitness industry experience as a Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Instructor
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor credential
Knowledge of:
  • The community college system and a commitment to its mission.

Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Use a computer efficiently, especially standard office software.
  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills.
