A Criminal Justice Instructor in the Department of Social Science and Communication will be assigned to teach a full range of lower-division Criminal Justice courses (both  online and face-to-face) which may include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Law and Justice, Introduction to Policing, and Introduction to Corrections.  The instructor will also support the department’s corequisite offerings for students who need additional support.  

 

This position also supports the Colleges’ extensive dual credit mission through mentoring and possible direct dual credit (high school) instruction.

 

This position also supports the College GNED 101 Introduction to General Education course. 

 

Course assignments and departmental support is assigned based on greatest need and may vary from semester to semester. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Teach a minimum semester credit load (15-16 hours) of courses (or equivalent) in accordance with the descriptions published in the CSI catalog. 
  • Devote a full time work week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours as determined by college policy, and bring to the attention of the immediate supervisor any conditions which might affect employment.
  • Devise and utilize outcomes assessment measures.
  • Participate fully in all departmental, program-level, and college-level assessment activities.
  • Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviation being filed promptly and accurately through the appropriate channels.
  • Provide current copies of course syllabi to chairperson each semester.
  • Monitor student placement in courses and student progress; maintain accurate records.
  • Interact with and advise students.
  • Participate in faculty development to improve professional effectiveness including the August Learning Lab as well as a first year on-boarding process. 
  • Participate in instructional evaluation processes.
  • Attend department meetings and committee meetings as appropriate.
  • Recommend textbook adoptions in collaboration with other faculty in the department.
  • Promote and help with learning assistance services.
  • Maintain alignment of program with matriculation across the state, to the best of our ability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the subject area, or a closely related field.
  • Applicants who claim equivalent qualifications shall provide conclusive evidence that they possess qualifications that are at least equivalent to those required by the minimum qualifications of the area for which they are applying.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to supply all evidence and documentation for the claim of equivalency at the time of application.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the varied backgrounds of community college students.
