Job Purpose
Responsible for oversight, management and operations of the marketing, branding, licensing, and fan engagement efforts for the department. The position also has administrative oversight of pep band, mascot, dance team and cheerleaders. The primary focus of this position is to create and manage a broad external strategy that promotes the College of Charleston Athletics and its athletic teams utilizing a multi-faceted approach, including: grassroots marketing, strategic marketing, digital and social media engagement, strategic communications, community engagement and fan engagement.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in business, sports administration, marketing, communications, advertising or another related field. A master's degree is preferred but not required.
Minimum five years of relevant work experience in college sports marketing and promotions is preferred. Knowledge and experience in graphic design is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Our ideal candidate will be organized, detail oriented and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Strong interpersonal skills with colleagues, fans, donors, student-athletes, coaches, and administrators
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Problem solver, self-starter, and intrinsically motivated. Proactive thinking with interest in developing and executing new ideas is necessary.
• Willing to work in a team atmosphere where expectations are set and managed while giving staff flexibility to do their assigned tasks as both a leader and/or a follower
• Strong knowledge of digital marketing, including but not limited to social media, content marketing, banner ads, mobile, retargeting and websites, including interpreting performance analytics for all areas
• Understand the sports sponsorship landscape including traditional, non-traditional, and digital marketing assets and stay up to date on changes and advancements within the industry
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and Adobe Photoshop or other graphic design software
• Work schedule will include evenings, nights and weekends, with minimal travel.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
This position will require night and weekend availability as well as the ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
