Job Announcement Summary
The College and Career Academy at Pruden is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a part-time position in the Adult and Continuing Education Program. The desired candidate should demonstrate knowledge of GED test preparation, basic skills instruction, and professional soft skills to prepare learners in IET cohorts for employment in the healthcare field. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with business/community partner agencies in the region. Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and organizational skills are required.
Essential Duties:
- Coordinates planning and implementation of instructional activities for a cohort of adult learners preparing for a GED® Certificate, Career Readiness Certificate (CRC), Nurse Aide Certificate, and a Digital Literacy Certificate.
- Supports industry trainer and GED instructor in the state-approved curriculum and assessment for assigned cohort.
- Supports industry trainer and GED instructor’s efforts for collaboration to deliver contextualized instruction.
- Collaborates with healthcare partners to develop and execute a plan for recruitment and job placement for adult learners interested in obtaining a GED certificate and an industry credential.
- Coordinates employer/partner visits to classroom or field trips into the community.
- Monitors program timeline and weekly instructional schedule for learner persistence and capstone project.
- Provides GED instruction to students as needed.
- Collaborate and/or co-teach with partners to provide targeted academic support to students in training programs earning industry credentials.
- Administers TABE 13/14 pre and post-test assessments per VDOE guidelines.
- Participates in staff development activities, staff meetings, and curriculum development activities as required or assigned.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to work well with underserved adult students (16yrs ) from various backgrounds, including English-language learners, whose academic skills are below a 12-grade level.
- Knowledge of technology sufficient to deliver instruction, communicate via email, and teach basic digital literacy to students.
- Ability to establish and maintain a professional classroom environment.
- Ability to manage time effectively.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with experience in Adult Education
- Current Virginia teaching license preferred
- Experience teaching high school and/or adult students
- Technology skills - Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience using video conferencing platforms, e.g. Zoom, Google Meet, Team
Salary and Hours:
- $40.00 per hour – (6 to 9 hours per week –schedule based on program activity.)
- Evening schedule - (Flexible)
