Work Arrangement:

This position offers a flexible work arrangement, with hybrid or fully remote options available. Candidates must be admitted to practice in New York or New Jersey and have relevant experience handling family law matters in the applicable jurisdiction.

The Opportunity:

• Our law firm client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Family Law Associate Attorney to join its growing family law practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience in family law litigation who is looking to develop their practice, take ownership of cases, and work alongside experienced attorneys on a variety of family law matters.
• The ideal candidate will have strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and courtroom skills, along with the ability to handle sensitive family matters with professionalism, compassion, and sound judgment.
• Candidates must be admitted to practice in New York or New Jersey and have relevant family law experience in at least one of these jurisdictions. The position offers a flexible work arrangement, with the ability to work on a hybrid schedule or fully remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

• Client Representation: Advise and represent clients in family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution, and domestic violence proceedings.
• Client Consultations: Conduct consultations, assess legal issues, gather relevant information, and develop case strategies tailored to each client's needs.
• Legal Research & Analysis: Research applicable statutes, case law, and court rules to develop effective legal arguments and provide informed legal advice.
• Document Drafting: Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, custody arrangements, and other legal documents.
• Court Appearances: Represent clients at hearings, conferences, trials, mediations, and other court-related proceedings.
• Negotiation & Settlement: Participate in settlement discussions, mediation, and other alternative dispute resolution processes to pursue favorable outcomes for clients.
• Case Management: Manage a caseload from initial consultation through resolution, ensuring deadlines are met and case files remain accurate and organized.
• Client Communication: Maintain consistent communication with clients, providing updates on case progress, legal options, and litigation strategy.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with senior attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff to develop case strategies and deliver effective client service.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active admission to the New York or New Jersey Bar, in good standing.
• Approximately 1–3 years of family law experience, including litigation experience.
• Experience handling family law matters in New York or New Jersey.
• Knowledge of applicable family law statutes, court procedures, and local rules in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
• Excellent organizational, time-management, and case-management abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Compassionate and professional approach to sensitive and emotionally complex legal matters.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a legal team.
