Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will play a crucial role in ensuring the proper maintenance and repair of our fleet of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects. The mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on various types of heavy machinery. This position requires a strong technical background, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient equipment fleet.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication, to ensure the optimal performance and longevity of heavy equipment.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy machinery, such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and rollers.
- Use diagnostic tools, software, and manuals to identify and rectify equipment malfunctions and implement necessary repairs.
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled repairs, including engine overhauls, transmission repairs, brake replacements, and hydraulic system repairs.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including work performed, parts used, and equipment downtime.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working in the maintenance shop or in the field.
- Collaborate with equipment operators, supervisors, and other team members to ensure the timely resolution of equipment issues and minimize project delays.
- Provide guidance and support to less-experienced mechanics or apprentices when necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, and inclement weather.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods while performing maintenance and repair tasks.
- Lift and carry heavy equipment parts and tools, weighing up to 50 pounds, safely and correctly.
- Perform tasks that may require reaching, climbing, balancing, and working in confined spaces.
- Utilize manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise and intricate work.
Qualifications:
- Possess a valid New York State CDL or be willing and able to obtain one through company-sponsored training.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment systems, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Proficient in diagnostic tools, software, and manuals used in the repair and maintenance of heavy machinery.
- Familiarity with a wide range of heavy equipment brands and models.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet project deadlines.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Salary: $60.00-$90.00/Hourly
