Position Summary
Central States Group, A Cogent Company, is seeking an experienced Service Technician to join our team in Cedar Rapids, IA. This position will be responsible for service, repair, and maintenance of submersible and municipal pumps, motors, and related rotating equipment for our valued clients in the water and wastewater industry. The role combines strong mechanical service experience with proven electrical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
The ideal candidate will have a background in automotive or heavy equipment repair and be proficient in diagnosing and working with single-phase and three-phase electrical systems. Experience with electrical motors is required.
This is a hands-on position with opportunities for continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, repair, and maintain submersible pumps, motors, and other rotating equipment used in water and wastewater applications.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair single-phase and three-phase electrical systems, including motor controls.
- Perform failure analysis, prepare accurate repair reports, and document labor, parts, and work performed.
- Work independently or as part of a team under tight deadlines to deliver quality service.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain strong communication with clients and internal teams.
- Uphold all company safety practices and procedures.
- Commit to continuous learning of products, applications, technology, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in mechanics, electrical, or electronics preferred.
- Strong background in automotive/heavy equipment service and electrical systems.
- Proven experience with electrical motors and electro-mechanical troubleshooting.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and apply electrical theory in field service.
- Previous experience repairing submersible pumps or similar rotating equipment preferred.
- Willingness to travel (significant travel expected as role develops).
- Ability to work overtime on short notice.
- Strong organization, communication, and customer service skills.
- Basic computer literacy required.
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects, parts, and equipment.
