Manufacturing Engineer

We are looking for a process-driven Manufacturing Engineer to join our cooling equipment manufacturing team and help support new product introductions. This role is ideal for someone with a strong passion for manufacturing, a continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
Based at our Billerica, MA facility, you will work closely with manufacturing, production leadership, planning, purchasing, engineering, and quality teams. You will play a key role in improving manufacturing processes, supporting the shop floor, and driving lean initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and waste reduction. This position reports to the Systems Manufacturing Engineering Manager within the Operations team.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Act as the primary engineering support for shop floor technical issues, ensuring timely resolution and driving corrective actions to prevent repeat problems.
- Champion a “stop and fix” culture that promotes quality, accountability, and process discipline.
- Partner with cross-functional product development teams to support new product introduction, including Design for Manufacturing and Assembly input and prototype build coordination.
- Develop and implement process plans for electro-mechanical assembly and testing operations, including recirculating chillers, ambient cooling systems, and liquid-to-liquid pump stands.
- Manage compliance agency file updates related to component changes and obsolescence.
- Lead facility and capital equipment projects from planning and supplier coordination through approval and implementation.
- Support routine factory maintenance audits for agency-listed products.
- Design, specify, and improve tooling used in manufacturing and product-specific processes.
- Identify and implement workflow, equipment, and process improvements, including automation and electronic data capture solutions.
- Create and update work instructions, routings, and other manufacturing documentation.
- Define training needs and develop training materials, competency checks, and process-specific training aids.
- Collaborate directly with shop floor teams to identify improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions.
- Ensure manufacturing processes meet customer requirements and applicable industry standards, while adapting to changing compliance needs.
- Participate in and, when needed, lead structured problem-solving efforts, including 8D corrective actions.
- Support cost reduction by improving manufacturing methods, tooling, and fixture design.
- Review engineering drawings and perform tolerance analysis against customer requirements.
- Initiate and execute engineering change notices for process updates using PLM and ERP systems.
- Conduct process failure analysis to determine root cause and drive corrective and preventive action.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- 7 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a highly visible production support role.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
- Certifications in project management, Six Sigma, or other technical disciplines.
- Experience in electro-mechanical assembly, testing, and new product introduction environments.
