Role Overview:
The legal department of Cogent Communications seeks a Legal Assistant to work at Cogent’s headquarters in Washington, DC. Cogent Communications, is a publicly traded, growing high-speed Internet service provider with operations in North America, Europe, South America and Asia.
The Legal Assistant will support a small legal department currently consisting of three lawyers and the company’s corporate secretary.
Responsibilities:
The position’s primary responsibility will be completing and submitting regulatory filings and maintaining corporate qualifications in various jurisdictions in the U.S. and countries where Cogent operates
Handle insurance (applications, claims and COIs) and corporate compliance matters
Facilitate payment of monthly invoices and estimates from outside legal counsel
Support in the administration of the Cogent stock plans and Section 16 reporting obligations.
Interface on a regular basis with partners in the Sales, Finance and Operations groups and create and maintain excellent working relationships
Provide administrative support to the Legal department and handle other matters as necessary
Qualifications:
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Meticulous attention to detail, with accurate input and proofreading skills
Ability to work independently, prioritize own workload and meet deadlines
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels and exercise sound decision-making
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines
Willingness to learn
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years of relevant work experience
Experience in creating, qualifying and maintaining corporate entities in the United States and worldwide
Experience in identifying, completing and submitting telecommunications regulatory filings internationally
Experience in creating a compliance calendar to monitor the timing of required filings
SEC Section 16 reporting experience
Experience in a corporate in-house legal department
Knowledge of telecommunications and/or the technology industry
Salary : $60,000 - $75,000
