Location:  Burlington -  Gates House

Shift: Sunday 8am - 9pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 2pm - 10 pm.



Summary: The Advocate supports the Mission, Philosophies and Goals of the Agency by complying with state and federal standards and by adhering to company standards established for occupancy, compliance, and efficiency. Provides services and supports to individuals in a variety of settings by completing the following duties. 


Education/Experience/ Licenses: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required.  Experience of at least 6 months working in a residential/day setting for persons with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).  Must pass extensive background checks.  Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.  Should exhibit a high degree of patience, empathy, and professionalism in working with IDD.  Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, email programs, and willingness to learn other computer programs with training.  Must be able to work flexible schedules including variable shifts. Must be able to communicate clearly, including: reading, writing and speaking. Must always maintain Medication-Delegated status.  Participate in ongoing professional development in human services field and type of position held.  If qualified, must be able to drive large passenger vans in a variety of traffic conditions.  If qualified, must maintain a valid Kansas driver's license and a good driving record


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

  • May assist Manager with interviewing and hiring.

  • Is responsible for providing and documenting On the Job Training.

  • Adheres to agency budgetary guidelines.

  • Maintains group living and/or supported living emergency drill reports, and conduct drills as required.

  • Collects and submits residential attendance reports.

  • Ensures completion of required documentation and supports for persons who receive services from COF by completing Quality Checks (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) according to standard procedures including review of information in database system.

    • Documentation is including but not limited to: MARs, General Event Reports (GER), Behavior Data Charts, Activities of Daily Living charts, goal documentation, support log, visitor’s log, etc.

  • Monitors the individuals’ funds and ensures the accuracy and protection of the account. 

  • Participates as needed in moves of persons receiving services from COF.

  • Maintains inventories of individuals’ personal belongings.

  • Reports need for maintenance, repairs and furnishing to appropriate personnel.

  • Provide input from individual choice and dietary guidelines.

  • Shops for needs of home, including food items, cleaning supplies, etc.

  • Submits Purchase Orders per company policy.

  • Assist in completion of individuals’ money request.

  • Works with entire professional team as needed.

  • Delivers and documents (as needed) goals/supports as per Person Centered Plans.

  • Complies with agency HIPPA/Confidentiality policies and procedures.

  • Must complete trainings as required within specified timeframe. (See Employee Handbook Section 2.11)

  • Quality checks on Medication Supply –Cycle Meds check-in and PRN or loose medication reordering, requests to discontinue dispose of medications that are no longer in use or expired.

  • Provide support to the manager assisting and coordinating staffing to cover individual needs-within given staff hours budget and as appropriate for health, safety, and welfare of individuals receiving service from COF Training Services, Inc.

    • Direct observation/oversight as team leader of 2nd and 3rd shift including reassigning DSPs to ensure adequate coverage of client needs.

    • Assisting Manager to efficiently make best use of DSP hours as a commodity of service delivery including making changes to DSP work hours (i.e., sending a DSP home early if additional staffing is not needed for client health safety and support needs)

    • Accessing necessary supplies/funds for client participation in activities

  • Other duties may be assigned.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; push wheelchairs and provide support to people while walking. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
