PART-TIME ROVING JUSTICE OF THE PEACE PRO TEMPORE - SIERRA VISTA

HIRING RATE OF PAY: $63.94 hourly

NATURE OF WORK: Under limited supervision, provides judicial services on an as-needed basis for the Cochise County Justice Courts during times when elected Justices of the Peace are unavailable to conduct hearings or court appearances due to a conflict. This position serves during business hours, weekends, holidays, and other periods of absence to ensure continuous access to the court and maintain public safety during both standard and non-standard hours. This temporary, part-time, on-call, at-will role requires impartial decision-making, sound judgment, and strict adherence to all applicable statutes, court procedures, and ethical standards.As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. - Be a citizen of the Unites States and a resident of Arizona for not less than one-year preceding appointment must be over the age of 18;
- Be of good moral character;
- Ability to read and write in English;
- Willing to work weekends and holidays for initial appearances;
- Abide by the Arizona Code of Judicial Conduct in all respects;
- Must be knowledgeable and qualified to handle all case types in the Justice Courts;
- Ability to travel to all six (6) Cochise County Justice Courts;
- Must provide three (3) professional and three (3) personal references;
- Applicants must successfully complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to graduates of an accredited law school or to individuals with at least five years substantial work experience in the criminal or civil justice system.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed under limited supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel, early morning, evening, holidays and weekend work required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of this position require: lifting up to 10 pounds, manual dexterity, and ability to communicate.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting majority of time; walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details and verbal instructions, requires emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem-solving skills.
