Position Information
This position will be responsible for managing, directing and evaluating staff under the Aquatics/Gymnastics Unit.
Essential Functions
Manages, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work activities for assigned programs or facilities: prioritizes work activities to meet objectives; ensures subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex and problem situations and provide technical expertise; and provides progress and activity reports to department management.
Develops and implements long- and short-term plans, goals, and objectives for assigned programs and facilities: researches, assesses and develops strategies to meet current and future recreation needs; and implements programs, events, needed changes, modifications and/or enhancements.
Develops, implements and updates policies and procedures for assigned programs and facilities: formulates and develops work methods and practices, policies, standard operating procedures, and training programs; monitors implementation of rules and regulations; and updates policies and procedures as required.
Ensures maintenance of assigned facilities and parks: assists in establishing and monitors implementation of preventative maintenance; inspects facilities and parks; identifies needed repairs; receives and evaluates requests for improvements and additions to facilities and parks; assists in selecting and coordinates facility and park improvements and additions; and coordinates maintenance and related projects with allied groups, organizations, and associations.
Develops and implements programs: establishes program, league, tournament and other special event schedules; coordinates programs and use of facilities, and parks with sports associations, schools, renters, and other customers or organizations; implements programs related to area of assignment; schedules sports tournament and other special events; processes program, tournament, and event registrations; and ensures compliance with County policies and procedures by participants and staff.
Assists in developing and implements budget: makes recommendations regarding budget allocations for staffing, equipment, and capital improvement needs; recommendations; procures supplies and equipment according to County procurement policies and procedures; maintains accounts receivable monies and documentation; assists with applying for and managing granted funds; and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget.
Performs customer service and public relations duties; provides information and answers questions; creates, publishes, and updates marketing and related collateral materials such as program and league schedules, website, social media, brochures, fliers, etc.; attends meetings; and makes presentations.
Communicates with Director, Division Managers, County administrators, elected officials, County employees, contractors, vendors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; participates in various committees; attends meetings; and provides information and input regarding department activities and needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Parks & Recreation, or related field required; supplemented by five years of experience in area of assignment to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License; Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
