Job Title: R&D Technician
Department: R&D
Reports To: Department Supervisor
FSLA Status: Hourly

 

Summary: To develop and integrate new or improve existing products or processes.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Advanced Design, Product and Process engineers to develop and test prototype new products while maintaining milestones in the timeline.
  • Work with and train production team members, supervisors, and managers to integrate new products into production efficiently.
  • Participate in continuous improvement throughout the life cycle of a product
  • Participate in quality assurance process.
  • Work with product management team to ensure process is efficient.
  • Read, understand, and build from CAD drawings, verbal instruction, and hand sketches with some assistance acceptable.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely, including but not limited to - table saw, drill press, miter saw, bandsaw, drill, driver,
  • Tasks include but are not limited to measuring, cutting, assembly, lamination, cutting and grinding fiberglass, gelcoat application and finishing
  • Experience with boat hardware, upholstery, plumbing, electrical systems. Basic knowledge of generator and A/C systems a plus.
  • Ability to apply problem solving skills and show team cooperation.
  • Manage future and existing assigned products, set objectives and report on performance.
  • Generate products and services from inception to commercialization for customers.
  • Define products and programs.
  • Establish daily/weekly milestones and objectives.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to execute product development plan.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

1–3 years of experience in a building and construction trade, automotive, mechanical background or boat assembly

Language Skills                                                

Ability to read and or verbally comprehend and follow instructions. Ability to clearly communicate with production team members, supervisors, managers, engineering, and sales.

 

Mathematical Skills                                                     

Ability to add and divide fractions, convert to decimals and work with compound angles. Ability to add and subtract and to multiply and divide with 10`s and 100`s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability                                             

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Safety glasses must be always worn.

Chemical resistant gloves required when handling chemicals.

Typical 10-hour workdays, frequent overtime required.
