Overview
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Dirt Pit Operator to join our team. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a dirt pit environment to excavate, move, load, and grade materials safely and efficiently. Common duties in comparable listings include running dozers and excavators, loading trucks, performing daily equipment checks, and maintaining a safe work area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, loaders, skid steers, and haul equipment
- Excavate, move, stockpile, and grade dirt, gravel, and related materials
- Load customer or company trucks accurately and efficiently
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections
- Conduct basic routine maintenance and report mechanical issues promptly
- Keep the pit, loading area, and equipment clean and organized
- Follow all company safety procedures and site rules
- Communicate with supervisors, drivers, and crew members to maintain production flow
- Assist with general labor duties around the pit as needed
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in a dirt pit, borrow pit, quarry, grading, excavation, or sitework environment
- Ability to operate equipment safely and productively
- Knowledge of grading, loading, and material handling
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions year-round
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
- Valid driver’s license preferred
- MSHA or OSHA training is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment repeatedly
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and work long hours as needed
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to work in heat, cold, dust, mud, and uneven terrain
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
