Coastal Protection Engineering LLC (CPE), a multidisciplined coastal consulting firm with a national presence and a flourishing coastal engineering and geology practice, is seeking a Marine Geologist to join our Boca Raton, FL office. This position offers exceptional growth and career development opportunities for a motivated professional passionate about coastal and marine geology. The successful candidate will work closely with our Principal Coastal Scientist and project teams on offshore sand searches, borrow-area design, and geological investigations supporting beach nourishment and coastal restoration projects throughout the U.S.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning and supervision of offshore geological and geophysical investigations in support of Coastal Restoration projects.
  • Collect, process, and interpret hydrographic, geophysical (seismic, sidescan sonar, magnetometer), and geotechnical data (vibracores, jet probes).
  • Oversee the identification, delineation, and characterization of offshore sand resources and designing borrow areas for beach and dune nourishment projects.
  • Preparation of technical reports, figures, and GIS deliverables summarizing geophysical and geotechnical data analysis.
  • Work closely with engineers, modelers, and environmental scientists to integrate geologic data into coastal project designs.
  • Conduct fieldwork aboard survey vessels and assist with offshore data collection programs.
  • Maintain QA/QC standards for data acquisition and processing.
  • Communicate project results through clear written reports and visual presentations.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Marine Geology, Geosciences, Oceanography, or related field.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license, or ability to obtain PG in Florida within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience with offshore sand searches and borrow-area design for beach nourishment projects.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS, SonarWiz, Hypack, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience processing and interpreting geophysical and geotechnical data (seismic profiles, sidescan mosaics, magnetometer anomalies, core logs).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel for fieldwork including time spent onboard offshore vessels (5–7-day trips) .
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States for an indefinite period.
