Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting. Appropriate certificate indicating passing grade for specific specialty if working in specialty department; e.g., pediatric medical assistant exam.
Experience: Minimum three (3) years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience.
Other Requirements: Current documentation of medical assistant certification preferred. Must possess a current CPR certification and current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis).

Coastal Health is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Orthopedic and Podiatry team! This role supports both clinical and administrative functions, ensuring high-quality specialty care and smooth daily operations.
Key Responsibilities Clinical:
- Record vital signs and prepare patients for orthopedic and podiatry exams
- Assist with procedures, splinting, casting support, and DME fittings (as applicable)
- Support wound care, including dressing changes, post-operative care, and patient education
- Assist with injections and administer medications as directed
- Collect and process lab specimens
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked exam rooms
- Educate patients on treatment plans, post-operative instructions, and follow-up care
- Greet and check in patients; verify insurance and update demographics
- Schedule appointments and manage inbound patient communication
- Process referrals and coordinate imaging (X-ray, MRI, CT)
- Manage medical records, forms, and clinical documentation
- Support billing, coding, and insurance requirements specific to orthopedic/podiatry procedures
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards
- High school diploma or GED required
- Medical Assistant diploma (certification preferred)
- CPR certification up-to-date immunizations (Hep B, TB)
- Minimum 3 years MA experience, preferably in a specialty such as orthopedics, podiatry, or wound care
- Proficient in EKGs, vital signs, venipuncture, injections
- Experience with wound care, suture/staple removal, and post-operative patient support (preferred)
- Athena EMR experience a plus
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment and provide excellent patient service
