The Histology Technician is responsible for performing routine and specialized histological procedures within the pathology lab, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical and biopsy specimens for microscopic examination
- Perform embedding, microtomy, and routine/special staining procedures
- Ensure proper specimen identification, labeling, and documentation
- Maintain and operate histology equipment (microtomes, processors, stainers)
- Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, and quality assurance protocols
- Work closely with pathologists and lab staff to support timely, accurate diagnoses
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Histology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- HT (ASCP) certification
- Prior experience in a pathology or histology lab preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
