About Us: CO-OP was born in 2012, on the first of June, in a burned-out basement in Aberdeen and on a card table in Sioux Falls. We put our heads down and worked hard. Rapid City came along in 2016. And Iowa in 2025. Today we have 33 team members across four offices, plus one wiener dog. But he doesn’t get health care. Or dental. And he could use dental.
The name CO-OP is a tribute to the cooperation that underpins life in the heartland. Our firm does architecture, interior design and master planning across most sectors, save for single family homes and multi-family/developer stuff. We don’t really do that. We prefer schools, offices, downtown mixed-use, restorations, civic/public work, and the like.
We want to help define upper plains architecture. To celebrate our history and pragmatic roots but challenge the status quo. We want rural America to succeed. We believe that communities succeed with investments in their core and in their children. We want better architecture in our own backyard.
To get there, we need motivated, intelligent people who can contribute to a vibrant office culture and help us push great design forward in our communities. Position Overview The Project Architect is a full-time, on-site role based in Rapid City, SD. Our Project Architects are licensed professionals responsible for overseeing the architectural aspects of construction projects from conception to completion. This position inspires with design prowess and elevates our architectural projects to new heights. We pride ourselves on a collaborative environment, where our team is self-motivated, and has a positive disposition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design: Lead the design process, from conceptualization to execution, ensuring exceptional and innovative outcomes.
- Design More: Continuously push the boundaries of architecture and explore creative solutions.
- Explain Your Design: Communicate design concepts effectively to clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Visualize Design: Utilize computer software to produce high-quality models, renderings, and graphic designs.
- Comprehensive Tasks: Engage in drafting, code compliance, project management, construction administration, and other architectural tasks.
- Collaborate and Contribute: Assist with various facets of the architecture office and contribute to the overall success of the firm.
- Influence the Design Scene: Play a key role in shaping and leading the architectural landscape.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Education: Professional Degree in Architecture required; licensure preferred.
- Experience: 5 years preferred but not required
- Skills: Strong social and technical skills; ability to work well in a team.
- Self-Motivation: Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain a positive attitude.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with Revit and other relevant software for design and visualization.
