Academies of Math and Science – Nellis Campus Special Education Teacher (K–8) – 2026–2027 School Year Location: 1780 Betty Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89156 Compensation Range: $59,000 – $62,812 annually (DOE) Start Date: Summer 2026 Position Overview Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher (K–8) to join our team at the Nellis Campus in Las Vegas for the 2026–2027 school year. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role collaborates closely with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure students receive the accommodations, services, and support necessary to succeed academically and socially. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Student Achievement Deliver specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals and Nevada Academic Content Standards. Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse learning needs and abilities. Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals using data-driven instructional practices. Implement appropriate accommodations, modifications, and interventions to support student success. Support students in developing academic, organizational, and self-advocacy skills. Compliance & IEP Management Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and Nevada Department of Education (NDE) regulations. Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings with families, administrators, and related service providers. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation related to student services. Ensure all special education services are delivered in accordance with federal and state requirements. Collaboration & Professional Growth Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive instructional practices and accommodations. Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) and ongoing professional development. Work closely with instructional coaches, administrators, and support staff to improve student outcomes. Contribute to school-wide systems that support positive scholar culture and academic growth. Family Engagement Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and IEP implementation. Participate in parent meetings, conferences, and IEP reviews. Support families in understanding student accommodations, services, and academic goals. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet the following requirements: Valid Special Education teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) (or ability to obtain prior to start date) Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field Additionally, candidates must: Demonstrate strong classroom management skills Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment Successfully pass required Nevada state background checks and clearances Preferred Qualifications Previous experience teaching special education in a K–8 setting Experience working in Title I or high-need school environments Experience supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) Experience with IEP development, compliance systems, and progress monitoring tools Bilingual Spanish/English preferred Compensation & Benefits AMS offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support professional growth and long-term career success.
