Position Description:

The Dean of Nursing Program Administration has the responsibility and authority to carry out the duties set forth in the regulations of the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). Under the direction of Provost, the Dean of Nursing Program Administration provides administrative leadership for the BSN Program and is accountable for the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program. This position works cooperatively with the Dean and supervises faculty and staff and supports students in all nursing program areas. The incumbent The incumbent oversees various critical aspects of program management, including but not limited to the development of clinical sites, coaching faculty, scheduling, evaluation, workflow management, and program control and assessments. The incumbent performs the Dean’s duties in that person’s absence and acts as a liaison between the Dean and the program faculty, staff and students.

Position Qualifications:

The Dean of Nursing Program Administration must be a registered nurse who is knowledgeable and current regarding the program and the policies by which it is administered. This person must qualify for authorization by state agencies to ensure that all programs are properly supervised in compliance with the requirements of Title XVI of the State Education Code and other state regulations.

· A Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes coursework in nursing, education or administration

  • A minimum of one year’s experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities consistent with Title 16. California Code of Regulations, section 1420 (h)

· A minimum of two year’s experience teaching in pre-or post-licensure registered nursing programs

· At least one year’s continuous, full-time or its experience direct patient care as a registered nurse providing direct patient care; or

· Equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).

· Current license as a registered professional nurse in good standing.

· Current clinical nursing malpractice insurance.

· Criminal background clearance.

  • Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of program students, faculty and staff.

· Superior interpersonal and communication skills.

· Proficient in MS Office, Internet, and course management software.

Position Selection:

The prospective Dean of Nursing Program Administration is identified by the President following a panel interview. All qualified interested candidates should submit a current resume’ to the Human Resource Department for consideration. The Associate Dean is hired following approval from the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)

Position Release Time:

Dean of Nursing Program Administration receives 50% release time for administration of the program. Normal scheduled hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. With 50% release time for teaching and other program activities.

Position Responsibilities

· Coordinates and directs all activities in developing, implementing, and managing the program.

  • Provides leadership in all activities related to the nursing program academic policies, curriculum, resources, services and program evaluation.
  • Collaborates with the College President regarding budget development, makes recommendations for program resources and administers the program budget.
  • Oversees recruitment, board approval (when indicated), hiring, training, development, supervision and performance of the faculty and program staff.
  • Conducts (chairs) quarterly nursing faculty meetings for purposes of curriculum and policy discussion, evaluation, and revision.
  • Serves as chair for the evaluation committee to oversee the comprehensive assessment of the program including the development and monitoring of the evaluation plan.
  • Promotes a culture of professional nursing that embraces compassion and ethic based practice.
  • Screens, interviews, counsels (e.g. 45 Quarter Credit Option, transfer and challenge of credits, etc.) and selects applicant admitted to the nursing program.

· Assists students to identify and utilize available community services and resources to resolve personal issues impacting their satisfactory academic progress.

  • Facilitates the establishment of cooperative agreements/contracts for clinical practice sites and nursing education articulation.
  • Maintains active membership in the Orange County Long Beach Nursing Education Consortium and participates in the online clinical placement request process and the annual clinical placement meeting.

· Attends clinical affiliation meetings at the contracted agencies to facilitate communication and identify the impact of new student placements.

· Perform quality assurance and control activities as they relate to nursing program outcome.

  • Maintains professional membership in community, state and national organizations to promote the college and nursing programs.
  • Assures that student to faculty ratios for patient care experiences are maintained in accordance with state board of nursing regulations.
  • Serves as program liaison with the state board of nursing and nursing/health care community.
  • Insure efficient process of licensure paperwork to the state board of nursing including submitting a student roster four weeks prior to the expected date of successfully completing required coursework (graduation) and notifying the board immediately regarding student(s) ineligible to take NCLEX-RN examination.
  • Insure board receives faculty rosters including current active CA RN licensure prior to commencement of the initial cohort and when updated.
  • Insures program compliance with requirements and standards of regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies.
  • Assists with student problem resolution, implementing policies and procedures, and student orientation and advising.
  • Maintains and reports student grades and attendance and implements retention initiatives in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Completes professional development activities to maintain expertise in accordance with college standards and identified needs.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of clinical sites, ensuring they meet program requirements and standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty members, facilitating their professional development and enhancing teaching effectiveness.
  • Coordinate scheduling of program activities, ensuring optimal use of resources and adherence to timelines.
  • Conduct evaluations of program components, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
  • Oversee workflow management, streamlining processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Administer program controls and assessments, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Pay: From $160,000.00 per year
