Position Summary: The Maryland Public Information Act General Clerk is responsible for processing and responding to public records requests in compliance with the Maryland Public Information Act. This role involves reviewing, redacting, and releasing police reports, investigative documents, and video footage using specialized redaction software, while ensuring the proper application of legal exemptions and adherence to records retention policies. The position requires knowledge of government public disclosure processes, experience managing confidential or evidentiary material, and strong attention to detail. The MPIA General Clerk must be able to manage multiple requests under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and providing excellent customer service.
Key Knowledge/Responsibilities:
- Apply knowledge of the Maryland Public Information Act to accurately redact sensitive information from police videos and reports.
- Redaction software, video and document redaction applications and related technology
- Apply applicable Public Records Act exemptions to video footage and case files.
- Government public disclosure programs, processes, and activities
- Redaction software and other relevant technology and techniques
- Records retention policies and best practices
- Working with confidential or evidentiary material
Qualifications:
- Preferred experience with Body Worn Camera recording devices and footage review.
- Processing and responding to public records requests in compliance with the requirements of the Maryland Public Information Act
- Conducting searches in electronic and paper recordkeeping systems
- Utilizing databases to update and research requests for information.
- Providing customer service when working with tight deadlines
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in a related field, or relevant experience.
