CM Almy, a renowned provider of clergy apparel, is seeking a dedicated Textile Product Development Engineer to join our team. In this role, you'll lead new product development and improvement initiatives, collaborate with various departments, and ensure high-quality standards in our manufacturing processes.

CM Almy was founded in 1892. We design and make virtually all of our products in Pittsfield, Maine. It is our mission to design furnishings that will grace places of worship and ensure their value by making them with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. We make a complete line of vestments, clergy apparel, choir robes, candles, communion bread, linens, processional and altar appointments, and Eucharistic vessels. Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead new product development and improvement initiatives to maximize profits and minimize waste.
  • Act as a liaison between sales, marketing, materials, and operations for product-related tasks.
  • Focus on quality by working with sewing and cutting operators under the Softgoods Manager's guidance.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and optimize garment production processes, including workstation and production line layouts, to support efficient line balancing and workflow in a clothing manufacturing environment.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of apparel manufacturing techniques—including cutting, sewing, pressing, and packing—to improve productivity and ensure operational consistency.
  • Operate and support the use of specialized equipment associated with apparel production processes.
  • Document standardized operational methods and establish labor and time standards to ensure accurate performance tracking and training consistency.
  • Provide hands-on support for training operators in proper production methods, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques to monitor and maintain production efficiency while achieving high standards of product quality.
  • Serve as the lead for new product development projects, including coordinating prototype creation, testing, and seamless transition into full production.
  • Act as Project Manager for assigned initiatives, leading cross-functional teams, ensuring milestone adherence, and driving continuous process improvements.

Education and Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Textile Technology, Fashion Production, or a related field is required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and substantial hands-on experience in apparel manufacturing may be considered in lieu of a formal degree

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a clothing or textile manufacturing environment, with direct involvement in production processes such as cutting, sewing, pressing, and packing.
  • Proficiency in using CAD systems for garment pattern layout or production planning tools such as Gerber Accumark, Lectra, or Optitex.
  • Demonstrated experience in process development and optimization, including workstation layout and production line balancing.
  • Proven track record of documenting operational procedures, establishing time standards, and supporting operator training.
