About the Role:

This position will focus specifically on the collection of food scraps from our commercial customers in the Fairfield & Westchester County region. Collections will be performed in a single-axle or tandem-axle dump truck. A Class-B CDL Dump Truck Driver is required to operate these trucks.

Shift: M-F, 5AM (Job Type: Full-time) | Location: Southington, CT | Pay Rate: $28.00

Rear Load

• Rolling and emptying totes with hydraulic mechanism at collection locations
• Effectively completing pre-trip & post-trip vehicle inspections daily
• Safely operating a Class B vehicle on roadways and at customer sites
• Communicating load information to dispatch
• Providing the best-service-possible to customers in a courteous and friendly manner
• Maintaining clean vehicle & personal appearance in an often unclean environment
• Lifting may be required

Minimum Job Qualifications:

• Valid CDL Class B driver's license required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card).
• Must successfully pass a DOT-regulated drug screen and pre-employment physical.
• Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as needed.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Ability to maneuver wheeled containers weighing up to 250 lbs. as part of daily collection duties.
• Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, with the ability to begin routes no later than 5:00 AM.
• Ability to work independently while effectively following written and verbal instructions.
• Prior experience in waste industry preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Normal work environment is a recycling plant, with exposure to all weather conditions, dirt, high levels of noise, smells/odors and at times exposure to dangerous and/or toxic substances requiring necessary precautions, including PPE.

• Must be able to climb into and out of truck several times per day using three points of contact
• Must be able to sit for extended periods as well as walk for short periods
• Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, and squat to perform a full inspection of the underside of the truck and inspect tires for adequate inflation and potential damage
• Must be able to see and hear proficiently to operate a commercial motor vehicle in a safe manner
