SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under the supervision of the executive director of marketing and community relations, this position is responsible for managing district communications, including the district website and social media platforms; maintaining a continuous flow of information to the community and news media; providing answers to public inquiries and participating in community activities. This position supervises the communications coordinator in implementing communications related to the district’s strategic plan and promotion of positive school and community relations. This position includes some general office management and special event planning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Engaging storyteller who manages print and digital communications, including preparing, editing and distributing Inside Schools, district publications for school elections, brochures, newsletters, leaflets, handbooks and other publications, and videos as needed. Ensures materials support the district’s strategic goals and brand.
- Creates an annual production schedule and demonstrates strong project management skills in coordinating department communications plans and appropriate content for the district’s website, including monitoring school and department websites for accuracy.
- Supervises the communications coordinator in implementing communication strategies and tactics to support the communications program.
- Manages video communications and promotional efforts, which involves story boarding, taping and editing that is aligned to brand standards.
- Assists in preparing, implementing and tracking communication plans, which includes information about district plans, priorities, information and initiatives. Participates in data collection and analysis for communication program effectiveness.
- Gathers and compiles data from district, state and federal guidelines and other resources to create appropriate written and digital communications for stakeholders.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with district staff, administration and community.
- Coordinates appropriate content for the district’s website, and monitors school and department websites for accuracy.
- Coordinates district events and recognitions, including Employee of the Year process and retiree event.
- Helps establish and maintain communication with the media and prepare news releases as assigned. Serves as back-up district spokesperson for media inquiries.
- Helps establish and maintain communications with community organizations as assigned. Maintains department databases and contact lists.
- Manages, monitors and provides information for the district’s social media platforms, ensuring information is integrated with other communication channels.
- Presents information regarding the district, its programs and services to internal and external groups and organizations, as assigned.
