Description:
The candidate will be the key person for providing expertise in the development and application of quality systems. He/she will be expected to provide guidance and training to other members of the manufacturing organization.The Quality Systems Engineer reports directly to the Quality Manager who reports to the Plant Manager. This position works with all areas of closure manufacturing, as well as customers or suppliers. The candidate must be able to effectively interact with personnel from all levels and departments inside CSI and with suppliers and customers as well. Travel to customer sites is required based on customer & business need.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Quality Systems Engineer will:
- Develop and implement Corrective Action Plans for Quality/Food Safety Systems, scrap, and complaint resolutions
- Lead internal Audits of the Crawfordsville manufacturing facility and serve as the Internal Audit Administrator.
- Participate in onsite Supplier Audit at vendor facilities.
- Provide Manufacturing Management with Quality/Food Safety Systems input for tactical and strategic planning.
- Provide clear quality standards and tools such as control plans, to facilitate evaluation/inspection of products and processes and to aid continuous improvement efforts.
- Work with the Quality Manager, Process Engineering, and Operations to improve the relationship between our customers, their requirements and process capabilities.
- Develop standardized work for production areas.
- Follow all food safety guidelines while on the manufacturing floor.
- Report any deviation from food safety protocol to the functional responsible personnel.
- Each employee will do one bi-annual Quality/GMP Job Observation located on the EHS website.
- Complies with all OPEX (Operational Excellence) policies, procedures, and guidelines required of them in their current role; completes all required training, audits, and compliance tools.

- Close visual acuity to perform computer tasks, read & develop spreadsheets, read financial data, etc.
- Able to travel without assistance as required by specific role
- Able to participate in meetings and discussions with peer group and management team, and interact with employees in multiple locations and settings
- Follows and participates actively in the Food Safety System implementation and sustainability.
- Handles and controls non-conforming material (HFI)
- Must have in-depth knowledge of Food Safety Systems, GMP, FDA regulations applicable to the packaging industry.

- Expertise in Quality systems.
- Provides assistance to Process Owners. Provides counseling, leadership and other assistance related to Quality systems as required
- Administrative assistance related to Quality Systems. Counseling in implementation and maintenance of quality systems.
- Effective, appropriately designed controlled documents program. Expertise, advice and counsel on quality and food safety requests.

Qualifications:
Educational and Other Skill Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in quality, Manufacturing, Engineering or a related area of study
- Extensive background in manufacturing (five to seven years minimum experience)
- Certification by the American Society of Quality or similar organization related to auditing
- Demonstrated understanding of industrial statistics (SPC)
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced quality tools such as DOE, FMEA, etc.
- Analytical skills for both manufacturing and process-related issues.
- Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
Work Schedule: 8-hour days, with occasional after-hours work
Education/Training Requirements: See above-May vary due to new technologies or requirements.
PPE: ANSI Z41 approved safety shoes, hearing and eye protection as appropriate for work area, gloves according to work task, and other PPE as assigned and required.
Tools and Equipment: Various writing utensils, radios, phone, computer, printers, fax machines, calculators, various computer software required for specific roles.
