Speech Language Pathologist

• Master’s degree in communication disorders; prefer speech/language teaching experience in schools or other comparable settings.
• Missouri Certification and/or licensure in Speech Pathology; prefer CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence-Speech) but not required

• Schedules and instructs students in assigned schools.
• Assesses students’ communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment.
• Acts as a member of a diagnostic team to observe, evaluate and assist with determining the eligibility of speech-language impairments, attend diagnostic conferences and submit written reports of assessment results to meet with state compliance requirements.
• Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g. testing, IEPs, parent conferences, pre-referral staffing, etc.) for the purpose of presenting evaluation results, developing treatment plans, and/or providing training to parents/students/staff.
• Assesses the strengths and weaknesses of assigned students on a regular basis and collects and analyzes data systematically.
• Develops IEPs and implements educational learning plans to meet the speech-language needs and abilities of the students on caseload for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements. Keeps written evidence of daily and long-range instructional planning for assigned students.
• Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements.
• Encourages students to set and maintain appropriate standards of behavior by implementing all district policies and rules governing student conduct, developing reasonable rules of classroom behavior, and maintaining classroom order in a fair and just manner.
• Employs a variety of instructional and therapeutic techniques, interventions, and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and capabilities of the students.
• On a regular basis, assesses student’s progress toward instructional goals and objectives. Provides progress reports; maintains accurate, complete student records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations including IEPs and Medicaid as needed. Provides written evidence of routine data collection and analysis.
• Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Consistent with building requirements for faculty makes self reasonably available to students and parents for education-related issues outside the instructional day.
• Become familiar with, enforce and follow all Board policies, regulations, administrative procedures, other directions given by District administrators and state and federal laws as they affect the performance of job duties.
• Properly supervise all students. All students are to be under assigned adult supervision at all times during school and during any school activity. Except in an emergency, no employee will leave an assigned group unsupervised.
• Capacity to accept criticism calmly and with dignity, and without adopting a defensive attitude.
• Participate in the total educational program of the school and exhibit interest in the student activities both inside and outside the classroom.
• Available for consultation with students, parents, and other personnel before and after regular school hours.
• Handle requests, misunderstandings, or difficulties through proper administrative channels.
• Maintain order and discipline in the classroom as will best promote the welfare of the school.
• Responsible for the safety, conduct, and instruction of students in their charge and for students outside of class hours as assigned.
• Maintain accurate records for student reporting (grades, attendance, IEP, Section 504, etc.).
• Attend regular and special meetings as required by the administration.
• Maintain communication and a working relationship with members of the staff and central office staff.
• Maintain consistent communication and provide frequent feedback to students and parents regarding performance.
• Dress professionally and in a manner that will not interfere with the educational environment.
• Work cooperatively with the directors and administrators in the supervision and coordination of the respective programs.
• Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Building Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
