Status: Full-Time
Schedule: Mon–Fri, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (flexible)
On-Call: Rotation after training is completed
Reports to: Child Protection Supervisor
Starting Pay: $20.85/hour (based on education and experience)
Probationary Period: 365 days
About Us
Clinton County JFS is dedicated to protecting children, strengthening families, and partnering with our community to ensure every child has a safe, stable, and supportive home. As an Intake Caseworker, you’ll be the first point of response for reports of child abuse and neglect. You’ll investigate concerns, assess safety, and work closely with families and community partners to ensure children are protected and families receive the support they need.
What You’ll Do
· Support families: Develop safety plans, engage relatives, and connect families with resources.
· Advocate in court: Prepare cases, recommend placements, and testify in court.
· Collaborate: Partner with law enforcement, courts, schools, and service providers.
· Travel: Drive to visits, court, hospitals, and placements (mileage reimbursed).
· Stay organized: Complete assessments, documentation, and meet deadlines.
· Be flexible: Adjust schedules quickly in a fast-paced environment.
· Respond after hours: Participate in on-call rotation, including adult protection or rare elder abuse cases.
· Represent the agency: Present information about JFS–Child Protection Unit at community events.
Minimum Qualifications
Per ORC 5153.112, applicants must meet one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in a human-services field, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in another field 2 years of human-services experience, OR
- Associate degree in a human-services field, OR
- At least 60 semester credit hours toward a human-services degree, OR
- 5 years in a human-services occupation
Other Requirements: Valid Ohio Driver’s License/insurance, reliable transportation, ability to pass background checks (BCI, FBI, SACWIS, Child Abuse/Neglect, Sex Offender Registry, BMV, drug screen), and regular attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field
- Knowledge of SACWIS, community resources, and child welfare rules/laws
- Strong communication, writing, and computer skills
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to make safe, sound decisions quickly
