SUMMARY
The IT Systems Specialist is responsible for the administration, automation, and reliability of the District's core software platforms and digital infrastructure. This role focuses on "backend" systems management—ensuring that user accounts, cloud environments, and mobile devices are configured for seamless instructional use. While providing Tier 2 support, this position prioritizes system-wide efficiency through the use of Modern Management tools (Intune/MDM) and Identity Providers (Google/Azure).
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Platform & Identity Management
- Cloud Administration: Manage the Google Workspace for Education tenant and Microsoft Azure/Entra ID environments.
- Account Lifecycle: Administer end-user accounts, permissions, and security groups, ensuring automated syncing between the SIS (Student Information System) and instructional platforms.
- Single Sign-On (SSO): Maintain and support ClassLink or similar SSO dashboards to ensure students and staff have one-click access to digital resources.
Endpoint & System Administration
- Modern Management: Primary administrator for Microsoft Intune and the District's Mobile Device Manager (MDM) for iOS/macOS.
- Server Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance, patching, and configuration of physical and virtual Windows Servers.
- Backup & Security: Monitor and administer backup solutions and endpoint security (antivirus/filtering) to ensure data integrity and CIPA compliance.
Infrastructure Support
- Network Reliability: Monitor the health of the wireless network and configure core devices including switches, access points, and routers.
- Hardware Oversight: Manage the "Project Lifecycle" for printers, smartboards, and classroom peripherals—from initial configuration to decommission.
- Physical Layer: Assist with the installation of Cat6 cabling and network hardware during building refreshes or expansions.
Departmental Leadership
- Help Desk Tier 2: Serve as the escalation point for complex technical incidents that Tier 1 Support cannot resolve.
- Project Management: Lead IT-related projects (e.g., annual Chromebook rollover, software deployments) as assigned by the Director.
- Vendor Relations: Coordinate with hardware and software vendors for procurement and high-level technical support.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Information Technology, Systems Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of full-time experience in an IT environment, preferably within a K-12 school district.
- Technical Proficiencies: * Advanced knowledge of Google Workspace and Azure/Intune.
- Experience with ClassLink, Clever, or similar rostering tools.
- Foundational knowledge of Cisco networking and Windows Server environments.
- Personal Attributes: High degree of professionalism, self-motivated "problem-solver" logic, and the ability to explain complex systems to non-technical teachers and staff.
- Other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs (standard for server/UPS work).
- Ability to use ladders for access point/cabling maintenance.
- Prolonged use of computer consoles and administrative dashboards.
