We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Educational Interpreter to facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, educators, and staff within an educational setting. Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and effective interpretation of spoken language to American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to understand lesson content, classroom dynamics, and student needs.
- Facilitate communication between students and their peers, promoting social interaction and inclusion.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students and staff.
- Assist in the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) by providing input on communication needs and strategies.
- Attend professional development workshops and training sessions to enhance interpreting skills and stay updated on best practices.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to educators and support staff as necessary.
- Support students in developing self-advocacy skills and independence in communication.
- Participate in school meetings, committees, and community events as required.
- Adhere to ethical standards and guidelines set forth by relevant professional organizations.
Requirements
- Candidate must have a minimum 3.3 score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
