Responsibilities
- Travel to patient locations such as homes, clinics, or hospitals to perform blood draws and other specimen collections with precision and care
- Obtain blood samples using venipuncture, capillary puncture, and other approved techniques while maintaining strict aseptic protocols
- Accurately document patient information, vital signs, and specimen details in electronic health record (EHR) systems or laboratory information systems (LIS)
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, and transportation of specimens to maintain integrity and compliance with laboratory standards
- Provide compassionate patient care by explaining procedures clearly, addressing concerns, and ensuring comfort during collection processes
- Follow all laboratory procedures and safety guidelines, including infection control practices such as aseptic technique and proper specimen handling
- Assist with data entry, specimen processing, and maintaining detailed logs for quality assurance purposes
Requirements
- Proven experience in laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, or clinical laboratory work with a focus on blood sampling and specimen collection
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to venipuncture and patient care
- Certification or training in phlebotomy
- Ability to perform venipuncture efficiently while adhering to safety standards and maintaining patient comfort
- Experience working in hospital settings or with EMR/EHR systems for accurate data entry and documentation
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations including geriatrics and pediatrics
- Physical ability to lift heavy supplies when necessary and stand for extended periods during specimen collection sessions
