What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Marketing Manager position at Cline?
Who We Are
7M installs. 60k GitHub stars. A community that grew 4,700% year over year. Cline is the leading open-source agentic coding platform, trusted by the world's largest engineering organizations and individual developers alike. We're model agnostic, inference agnostic, and IDE agnostic, meeting engineers where they work while keeping code on their infrastructure. We've raised $32M in combined seed and Series A funding led by Emergence Capital and Pace Capital.
The opportunity
Shape what AI-native product marketing looks like at an AI-native company. Own the content and programs that close the gap between where the product is and where the market understands it to be.
The best work here lives at the intersection of creative and analytical. You will need the instincts to know what a technically credible developer-facing story looks like, and the rigor to measure whether it is changing outcomes in the field. Which launches deserve a full treatment. How to position Cline in a competitive landscape that shifts weekly. When content earns a developer's trust versus when it undermines it. These are judgment calls you will make daily, with real ownership over the outcomes.
We are building an AI-native marketing organization, and we mean that practically. We expect this role to run on AI-native workflows: systems that produce excellent output at a scale one person could not otherwise reach. The person who thrives here will be as comfortable designing the workflow as executing within it.
Examples Of Programs You’ll Start Or Own
Mid-funnel and sales enablement
Build and maintain the content that moves deals: battlecards, objection guides, demo scripts, solution briefs, and case studies across both our developer and enterprise buyer tracks. Write with technical credibility, update in near real-time as the competitive landscape shifts, and measure whether what you produce changes outcomes in the field.
Content engine
Design the systems and workflows that turn messaging into repeatable output. Prompt libraries, launch templates, competitive intelligence workflows, editorial processes that let the whole marketing organization move faster and stay consistent. You are not just a writer who uses AI tools. You are an architect who builds AI-native workflows that other people depend on.
Product launches
Cline ships constantly, so you will help develop a lean, repeatable launch system that handles high cadence without losing quality. Not every feature gets a blog post. Part of the job is knowing which ones do.
Positioning and messaging
Define and maintain how Cline talks about itself, across both the individual developer ICP and the enterprise buyer. In a market where every competitor updates their positioning weekly, this is a live document and not a quarterly artifact.
Competitive intelligence
Own Cline's ongoing view of the competitive landscape: Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Windsurf, and whatever launches next month. Surface what matters, discard what doesn't, and make sure the sales team always has an accurate and credible picture of how Cline compares.
What We're Looking For
A builder, not an inheritor
You have built and owned PMM programs from scratch. You’re comfortable with writing positioning documents for first-of-their-kind products, can think about a product ecosystem holistically, and are excited about designing a launch process built for both speed and demand capture.
Technically credible writing at volume
You write well and you write fast. You understand agentic coding well enough to write about it in a way that earns trust from a senior engineer and makes sense to a VP of Engineering.
Genuinely AI-native or have shown proof of wanting to learn
You use AI tools fluently and with clear judgment about when the output needs a human. You have built workflows that other people on your team use, not just personal productivity shortcuts. You are excited about what it means to build a truly AI-first marketing org.
Systems thinker
You ask the second-order question: not just how do I produce this asset, but how do I build the infrastructure so this type of asset is always current and always producible.
Qualifications
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Equity: In addition to the base salary, equity may be part of the total compensation package.
Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents. Includes a 401(k) plan.
