What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth and Groups Coordinator position at Climbing Business Journal?
The Youth and Groups Coordinator at PRG will play a pivotal role in the success of our youth Clubs, introductory youth classes, summer camp programs, and group rentals. This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, engagement, and connection, as well as introducing individuals to climbing and supporting their lifelong competitive climbing journey in a healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable manner. Collaborating closely with the Programs Director and Programs Manager, the Youth and Groups Coordinator will build and facilitate programs and practices aimed at supporting climbers in their athletic and personal development. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in youth development and a love for introducing others to the sport of climbing.
General Responsibilities
– Design, develop, and implement comprehensive climbing programs catering to climbers of varying skill levels, including recreational clubs and youth camps.
– Provide expert instruction in climbing techniques, safety practices, and training methodologies to individuals and groups.
– Lead weekly practices during the school year, and help facilitate school break, inservice day, and summer camps.
– Coach and run programs at both gym locations in the Portland area
– Supervise climbers during practices and while modeling PRG’s values.
– Provide personalized coaching and feedback to each climber to help them overcome challenges, improve weaknesses, and achieve their climbing goals.
– Actively respond to customer needs, membership and event questions, inquiries, and feedback. This may include short desk shifts to help with coverage as needed.
– Work collaboratively with other coaches and managers to ensure program coherence and alignment with the facility’s goals and objectives.
– Collaborate with the Gym Manager on what areas youth and groups are allowed to use during busy hours and events.
– Communicate with parents and families, answer questions, respond to emails in a timely manner
– Outreach/intake for local groups looking for field trips, teambuilding, etc.
– Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
– Enjoys working with youth, can create fun and engaging activities
– Technical proficiency in climbing and climbing safety
– Previous experience as a youth coach or youth development professional (2 years)
– Previous Experience Using RGP(Rock Gym Pro) Preferred
– Previous Sales and/or Marketing experience preferred
FACILITY SAFETY AND INCIDENT RESPONSE
– Ensure the safety of participants, staff and other customers through group organization, oversight, and practice planning.
– Actively promote risk mitigation through ongoing instruction and orientation.
– Respond to accidents and incidents following the PRG Safety Manual and Protocol and properly document any incidents through incident report log.
Compensation & Benefits
– This may be full time or part time hourly based on the candidate availability and experience. $19.50-24.00/hour

WORKING CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULE
– Many duties require the availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and events, including evenings and weekends.
– It will be difficult to take consecutive days off during our summer camp season or during school break camps
– This position will require at least 2 weeknight evenings per week coaching. There will be some flexibility in which groups/teams this position takes on. This person may need to be a substitute coach for groups on their typical non-coaching nights; within reason.
– During the summer, this position will be working regular business hours to help support camps. This is roughly 8:00-4:30pm M-F.
– This position will be required to work some weekends to help with group support
– This is not a desk position; however occasional desk or wall monitor support may be necessary. The entire Programs team will be responsible for having an understanding of all gym policies and expectations, and while in the building may be asked to support desk staff when questions or incidents arise.
