Clever Clams is seeking to fill Assistant (Non-Lead) positions with staff members who are warm, caring, energetic and eager to share God’s love with children and coworkers.

Although the following Job description is specific to the Infant/Toddler classroom, an assistant position may be available in the preschool classroom as well.

Assistant Teacher Job Description (Infant/Toddler)

(children ages 6weeks to 2years 11months)

Experience/Qualifications:

To be in compliance with state licensing rules and regulations an assistant teacher MUST:

· Be at least 16 years of age

· Pass a background check, be fingerprinted and have a doctor sign a form verifying medical clearance

· Be certified in adult and pediatric CPR/First aid

· Meet and maintain the experience and training requirements set forth by the Michigan state licensing rules for childcare centers (can be found online at www.michigan.gov/childcare).

· Provide all documentation requested as evidence of meeting these requirements

Preferred Experience:

· Have at least 2-6 months experience caring for or teaching infants/toddlers and references to confirm

All employees will be expected to sign an employment agreement at the time of hire. This ensures that both employer and employee are in agreement about expectations.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Wage: Age 18 : $13.73 per hour; Age 16-17(youth wage): $11.75 per hour

Position Type: Full or Part Time Total Weekly hours: 20-35

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-2:00pm or 2:00pm-6:00pm

State-Mandated Benefits & Protections:

Center Specific Benefits:

· Employees with children in care will receive up to a 15% discount on childcare costs.

Characteristics:

The character and/or personality of an infant/toddler assistant teacher should reflect:

· A love of teaching and caregiving; particularly infants and/or toddlers

· A positive attitude

· An ability to work as a team with other staff members

· An understanding of the abilities and limitations of infants and toddlers

· Capacity to deal with the stresses of caring for infants and toddlers

· Willingness to adhere to the policies and procedures of the childcare center

· Ability to communicate positively and effectively with parents/guardians

Daily Tasks and Duties:

The role of the infant/toddler assistant teacher is to maintain the health, safety and wellbeing of all infants and toddlers in care by doing all of the following in accordance with established policies and procedures:

· Showing Jesus’ love for children by providing care in a safe, loving and nurturing manner

· Ensuring that quality standards are maintained

· Assisting in keeping the classroom clean and orderly on a daily basis

· Modeling behaviors and actions that are expected of both children and other caregivers

· Implementing and/or assisting in implementing activities planned by the lead teacher

· Engaging in quality age-appropriate interactions with infants and toddlers throughout the day

· Checking and changing diapers at appropriate intervals and as needed

· Recording data pertaining to each child’s day (food intake/rest/diaper changes)

· Helping children to learn good hygiene by teaching and modelling good handwashing habits

· Preparing and serving breastmilk and infant formula according to each child’s routine

· Preparing and serving infant cereal and other foods, according to routines

· Maintaining proper labelling, dating and storage of all breastmilk, infant formula and other foods

Other Expectations:

Other roles and expectations of assistant teachers may include but are not limited to the following:

· Participating in interviews with the director and prospective families or employees when appropriate

· Assisting with cleaning and maintenance of all indoor and outdoor areas of the building and premises

· Substituting for a lead teacher while the lead teacher serves as “staff in charge” in the event of the director’s absence
