What are the responsibilities and job description for the Leave Administrator position at Cleveland State University?
Administers employee leave programs and processes at Cleveland State University (CSU). Ensures compliance with federal, state, local and CSU’s leave policies, such as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Paid Parental Leave (PPL), and other related laws, while providing guidance and support to employees and supervisors throughout the leave process. Plays a key role in supporting CSU’s mission by fostering fair, compliant, and supportive leave management experience for all faculty and staff. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience in leave administration, HR operations, or benefits administration.
- Related work experience may be substituted for education requirement. One (1) year of related work experience can be substituted for one (1) year of education. For example, a candidate with a high school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent and four (4) years of related work experience can be eligible to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education or public sector HR.
- Experience managing complex leave cases and accommodations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Strong knowledge of FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, and related federal and multi state employment laws.
- Manages multiple priorities and changing regulations effectively.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Uses data and judgment to assess leave eligibility and compliance.
- Clearly and effectively conveys information to all audiences.
- Works cooperatively across HR functions, colleges, and departments.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Ability to provide empathy and professionalism when assisting employees.
- Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and leave management systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
