Job Summary
The Faculty Fellow to the Provost serves as a term appointee within the Office of the Provost, working directly with the Provost and Vice Provosts on strategic initiatives, special projects, and priority areas that advance Cleveland State University’s academic mission and the goals of the Cleveland State United, CSU’s strategic plan. The position is designed to bring direct faculty perspective into leadership decisions made in the Office of the Provost while providing the Fellow with meaningful academic administrative experience. The Faculty Fellow reports to the Provost and is a 9-month position.
Essential Job Functions
The performance of the duties outlined below must be carried out within the mission of CSU: to help create an effective learning environment for students; to treat all persons with dignity and respect; and to actively demonstrate an attitude of willing service and teamwork.
Supports the implementation of the Cleveland State United strategic plan by contributing faculty perspective to institutional priority areas, cross-divisional initiatives, and strategic planning processes.
Percentage: 30%
Leads or co-leads special projects and academic innovation initiatives as assigned by the Provost, including new program development, curriculum initiatives, and faculty professional development efforts.
Percentage: 25%
Contributes to student success and retention work, including initiatives related to curricular innovation and program development, and serves as a liaison between the Faculty and the Provost’s Office on student-facing priorities.
Percentage: 20%
Communicates the Provost’s priorities in designated faculty governance forums, university committees, and working groups as assigned by the Provost, facilitating dialogue between the faculty community and the Office of the Provost.
Percentage: 15%
Engages in outreach to faculty colleagues on behalf of the Provost’s Office, supports faculty engagement initiatives, and contributes to a positive and collaborative academic culture across the university.
Percentage: 10%
Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
The Faculty Fellow appointment is a term position, for an initial term of one year, with the possibility of renewal for a max of two years and at the discretion of the Provost. The Fellow retains their full faculty appointment in their home department throughout the fellowship and returns to full faculty duties at the conclusion of the term. Compensation, course release, and workload arrangements will be established in consultation with the Fellow’s home department chair and dean prior to the start of the appointment.

- Full-time faculty appointment at Cleveland State University (at the rank of Associate Professor/College Lecturer/PoP or higher with continuing contract).
- Demonstrated commitment to CSU’s mission as an urban-serving public university.
- Record of active engagement in university service, shared governance, or academic leadership.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships across faculty, staff, administrative, and external stakeholders.
