Summary
The purpose of this position is coordinating the flow of animals received into the shelter, processing intakes, and evaluating the behavior and apparent health of the animals, working with the general public, assisting with the rehoming of owned pets, identifying and providing resources to keep pets in their homes, procuring and tracking resources.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities Include
Collaborate with the other Animal Services Specialists on a routine basis for evaluation and meeting intake requirements regarding home care versus shelter care, identifying pathway of animals ensuring animal positive outcomes or intake diversion is efficient and effective in each stage and taking/uploading photos & videos of animals at the time of admission.
Responsible for maintaining animal flow through the facility through coordination and regular communication with the Community Engagement Manager.
Understanding the organizational resources available at any given time, so intake is in alignment with regard to capacity, medical, spay/neuter, behavior, age, etc.
Prioritize intakes from our local partners and owner surrender program based on the current and projected available capacity at the shelter.
Maintain and build our transfer partner relationships to help alleviate overcrowding in the shelter.
Responsible for the transport of animals to and from our partners by following Transport Best Practices and maintaining the sanitation and cleanliness of the transport vehicles.
Ensure that all animal records are completed and accurate.
Responds to citizen requests for resources, coordinates services to assist citizens based on their needs through answering inquiries, arranging animal surrender appointments, aligning resources to deter or defer intake, organizing focused field distribution of information and resources.
Solicits donations from various sources, maintains database of donors, inventory, and distribution.
Daily production of systematic data points and statistical dashboards identified by the director
Make recommendations on policy and procedural changes with regards to efficiency and effectiveness to promote Animals Services program performance.
As part of a team environment, it may occasionally be required to assist with other Animal Services operations when staffing issues arise.

Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience in animal services, animal health, or animal care and welfare. Experience working with the intake of animals and placement of animals preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Excellent communication skills, including both written and oral communication
Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and be responsive to requests
Must have excellent interpersonal skills
General knowledge of modern and complex principles and practices of animal care
Knowledge of basic statistical procedures, data and records management and report preparation
Ability to analyze reports and make recommendations to improve program performance
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
Experience with animal shelter software helpful

Occasionally working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment
Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic)
License & Certifications
Valid driver's license and insurable driver's record.
North Carolina Certified Rabies Vaccinator within 6 months of hire.
North Carolina Certified Euthanasia Technician within 6 months of hire.
Fear Free Certification obtained within 6 months of hire.
Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval.
