What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiology Technologist or General X-Ray Operator position at Cleveland Clinic?
We are seeking a Registered Radiology Technologist but also able to consider a General X-Ray machine Operator for our Medina Hospital. Qualifications for both job titles are as follows:
Registered Radiology Technologist:
Responsibilities:
- Performs general radiology, portable, and fluoroscopic procedures (GIs, GUs, pediatrics, arthrograms, spine center).
- Produces images of optimal quality for interpretation with accuracy and without delay.
- Maintains documentation requirements to ensure that all technical data is entered timely and accurately.
- Notifies management and takes proper action to address equipment malfunctions.
- Educates patients regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.
- Ensures patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam.
- Assists with scheduling patient procedures.
- Monitors and determines priority of patients.
- Demonstrates care and operation of Radiology equipment according to technical specifications and applications.
- Assists Radiologist with fluoroscopic, GU, GI, and pediatric procedures.
- Acquires, archives, transmits, and prints images via PACS.
- Capable of after hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.
- Reports immediately any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
- Processes billing via RIS.
- Provides instruction and mentoring to new hires and Radiology students.
- Continually strives to learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions.
- Potentially rotates through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites and/or locations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
Certifications:
- Must be a Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT), in good standing.
- Current state licensure required prior to employment.
- (BLS) certification required.
Complexity of Work:
- Knowledge of anatomy and related pathologic processes.
- Ability to communicate well with Radiologists and physicians to coordinate proper imaging of patients.
- Strong communication skills are essential to provide excellent care to patients and families.
- Ability to function well with minimal or no direct supervision.
Work Experience:
- Minimum one year experience as a General Radiologic Technologist preferred.
General X-Ray Machine Operator:
Responsibilities:
- Performs standard diagnostic radiologic procedures to include Chest, Abdomen, Spine, Extremities and skull within the practitioner's scope of practice.
- Ability to operate Computerized and Digital Radiographic equipment.
- Performs patient exams quickly and efficiently to maximize productivity, patient flow and throughput.
- Understands the mechanics and technical components of each x-ray resource within the scope of practice.
- Keeps resources inventories properly so that all supplies and equipment are on hand.
- Understands the computer systems used in the department (i.e. Radiology Information Systems, CCF orders systems, CCF scheduling systems).
- Ability to function in other capacities of the Radiology Department Provides patient care and assistance.
- Assists the patients to provide them comfort throughout the visit.
- Reports problems immediately to the Supervisor.
- Assists in maintaining the flow of patients in and out of the department.
- Establishes and maintains friendly and cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Completion of 12 classroom hours of instruction in accordance with the requirements of the particular State approved facility attended.
- Appropriate clinical training of at least 8 hours with proven competency for the clinical site in area (s) of practice (e.g., Chest, Abdominal, Spine, Extremities, and Skull x-rays).
Certifications:
- Current State Licensure as a General X-Ray Machine Operator (GXMO).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
Complexity of Work:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
- One year of General X-Ray Machine Operator experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
