At Lutheran Hospital, we believe that when we do everything in service of our patients and caregivers, no detail gets ignored, including attention to nutritional and environmental needs. As a Porter, you will be responsible for the daily cleaning and maintenance of assigned areas, which may include both public and patient spaces. Duties may include, but are not limited to, tasks such as room sweep-up, moving furniture, washing walls, vents, and lights, with a major emphasis on floor care for both carpeted and resilient surfaces. All tasks are carried out in accordance with the standard procedures of the Environmental Services department.
A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with weekend requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Clean and maintain assigned public and private areas.
Empty, clean and reline wastebaskets.
Transport rash from utility rooms and collection pints to a compactor chute or San-I-Pak.
Perform high and low dusting.
Wash ceilings, walls, lights, windows and vents.
Clean, care for and maintain carpeted and resilient floors using a vacuum, high-speed buffer, floor scrubber or rotary machine.
Clean and polish all metal porcelain fixtures.
Set up meeting rooms, move furniture and replenish supplies.
Assist in cleaning emergency situations that are observed or requested.
Observe and report repairs to hospital equipment, furniture, buildings and fixtures.
Understand the proper measurement and usage of chemicals, dilution and usage.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision

High school diploma/GED
Healthcare experience
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
Ability to move/transport items weighing up to 50 pounds (lbs.)
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
