As Patient Companion in the float pool, you will help facilitate this mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working shifts varying between 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, you will observe three to four patients.  

• Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.  

• Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.  

• Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.  

• Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.  

• Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients as assigned, or if assigned to a closed unit, provide constant observation only for safety for three to four patients

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• High School Diploma or GED 

• Heartsaver level of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within three months of hire 

• Completion of a hospital-based patient companion training program or equivalent experience OR currently enrolled at an accredited school of Nursing, with completion of a Nursing Fundamentals Course OR have completed hospital-based NA/PC orientation or equivalent 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. 

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $16.50

Maximum hourly: $16.50
