A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide immediate medical treatment to injured or ill patients on-site and/or during transport to hospital.
- Maintain equipment.
- Assess nature and extent of illness/injury and patient history from available sources.
- Determine appropriate independent or collaborative response.
- Administer appropriate emergency medical care, including life support procedures, decontamination protocols, obtaining EKG readings and vital statistics monitoring.
- Perform fluid/drug administration as needed.
- Communicate with medical personnel at hospital, report/record observations and follow directives until report and hand-off at hospital if on the Transport Team.
- Navigate Ambulance to scene of accident in response to emergency call, if on the Transport Team.
- Completion of an accredited program for licensure as an EMT-Paramedic
- Current Florida licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association upon or within one year of hire
- Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic Training program
- Current valid Florida driver's license (VDL)
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
- One year of experience as an EMT or Paramedic
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
