What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Intern position at Cleveland-Cliffs Ferrous Processing & Trade?
Location: Detroit, MI
Ferrous Processing and Trading, a business of Cleveland-Cliffs Steel, seeks a motivated individual interested in starting their professional career in the IT field as an intern. The individual will monitor and maintain computer systems and networks within the organization in a technical support role and actively participate in the company's annual PC replacement project. He or she may also perform entry-level software development tasks. The individual will work closely with a mentor and with managers within the IT department.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Able to perform work professionally.
Interface and communicate clearly with department peers and internal employees to escalate problems as needed and resolve issues.
Ensure that all customer/employee problems are logged and communicated appropriately.
Provide weekly updates on assigned action items to team members and IT management.
Answer, evaluate, and prioritize service requests received via telephone, voice mail, e-mail and in-person for users' computer performance.
Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting with users to collect information about problems to determine the source of error.
Isolate performance issues to determine the cause of hardware malfunctions, including hard drives, printers, and cables.
Analyze and correct problems using documented procedures and available tools while leveraging personal knowledge and skills.
Resolve remote access issues, printing issues, and network connectivity issues.
Perform entry-level software development tasks, including research, analysis, data querying, standards adherence, and code optimization.
Assist in PC refresh initiatives, replacing old computers with newer models.
Work with the IT department team to identify areas where SOPs are needed.
Work with the team and management in the IT department to identify areas where process improvements are needed.
Site visits to scrap yard locations may be required, as well as overnight travel.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor's degree program in an Information Technology related discipline.
Must have successfully completed at least freshman year of study by the summer of 2025.
