Campus Minister

Position Title: Campus Minister

Classification: Exempt

Reports To: Chaplain

Position Summary:

The Campus Minister will be primarily responsible for the overall pastoral care, worship, service, and spiritual formation programming for the diverse university community of Clemson University, with a particular focus on undergraduate students. The Campus Minister will collaborate closely with the Pastor of Saint Andrew Catholic Church and the Department of Youth, Young Adult, and Faith Formation to ensure that all initiatives align with the Church’s mission and goals. This position includes direct oversight of student leadership development, retreats, weekly fellowship events, and the integration of the work of FOCUS missionaries into the broader campus ministry program.

Essential Job Functions:

Pastoral Care & Formation:

• Provide pastoral outreach and accompaniment to students through regular engagement, mentorship, and counseling.

• Participate in and model ongoing spiritual and professional development.

• Mentor students participating in formation programming within and outside of the university setting.

• Collaborate with University to support students’ formation and connect students with available resources

• Partner with the Pastor of Saint Andrew Catholic Church to develop and implement a shared vision for Campus Ministry.

• Oversee weekly Tuesday Night Dinner, ensuring coordination with volunteers, kitchen staff, and student leaders, and supervising setup and cleanup.

Retreats:

• Plan and lead three annual retreats: Freshman Retreat (September), Fall Retreat (November), and Spring/Lenten Retreat (April).

• Select and collaborate with student leaders to facilitate and direct retreat experiences. Sacramental Life & Worship• Work with the priest and other liturgical leaders to plan Masses for students.

• Coordinate additional prayer services that offer diversity of prayer experiences and locations

• Recruit and train students to serve as Liturgical Ministers across available liturgies

• Support student participation in Mass, Reconciliation, Adoration, and other sacramental and prayer experiences.

Service & Justice:

• Promote and direct immersion trips and local service opportunities that integrate faith and justice.

• Coordinate service experiences that complement faith formation, rooted in Catholic social teaching.

• Accompany students in learning to advocate for social justice grounded in Gospel values.

Student Leadership Development:

• Direct the Catholic Tigers Leadership Team, offering spiritual formation and leadership training.

• Ensure all student-led events and programs are well-organized, mission-aligned, and smoothly executed.

• Maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with the staff of Saint Andrew Parish and FOCUS missionaries.

• Ensure that FOCUS activities and outreach integrate into the broader campus ministry vision and programming.

Administrative & Safety Responsibilities:

• Review and implement emergency protocols for retreats, service trips, and all off-campus events.

• Manage the diocesan campus ministry budget and report appropriately.

• Continue fundraising efforts aimed at additional staff and new Student Center.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Campus Ministry.

Education Requirements/Position Qualifications:

• Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

• Master of Divinity (MDiv), MA in Theology, or equivalent degree.• Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural diversity and its role in adolescent and young adult development.

• Proven skills in organization, leadership, and collaboration.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality as outlined in the code of ethics.

• Ability to relate well to a wide variety of people and needs.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• A valid driver’s license is required for local travel and errands.

• This position may require lifting up to 50 pounds (e.g., groceries, kitchen supplies) and use of cleaning chemicals.

• Physical activities may include standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and occasional use of kitchen equipment.
