Position Summary
The Sewing Operator is responsible for operating industrial sewing machines to produce high-quality sewn components according to established specifications and production schedules. This role requires close attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Sewing Operators must follow instructions, maintain a clean and organized workstation, and contribute to overall department productivity.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Operate industrial sewing machines safely and efficiently.
- Sew materials according to work orders, patterns, templates, and supervisor instructions.
- Follow established sewing techniques and production processes.
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
- Inspect materials before and after sewing to ensure proper quality and stitching.
- Identify defects or issues and notify the Sewing Supervisor immediately.
- Assist in basic machine setup such as thread changes, bobbin replacement, and minor adjustments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and 5S-compliant workstation.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow SOPs, quality standards, and approved sewing methods.
- Perform small in-process quality checks on seams, stitch count, alignment, and finishes.
- Ensure all products meet company specifications before sending to the next stage.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and safe machine operation practices.
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate material shortages, equipment issues, or production concerns to the Sewing Supervisor.
- Work cooperatively with other sewing operators and production team members.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and improvement discussions when required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
· Previous sewing or manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
· Ability to operate or learn to operate industrial sewing machines.
· Good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and manual dexterity.
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
· Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
· Work performed on the production floor in a manufacturing environment.
· Frequent sitting, standing, bending, and reaching.
· Ability to lift up to 60 lbs as needed.
· Exposure to noise, sewing equipment, needles, and fabric dust.
· Required use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, etc.) per company policy.
· May require occasional overtime based on production needs.
Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
