What are the responsibilities and job description for the z/OS Systems Administrator position at ClearBridge Technology Group?
Our client, a large systems integrator, is looking to hire an experienced z/OS Systems Administrator for a 12-month remote contract. The consultant will be supporting the customer’s hardware using Hardware Configuration definition (HCD). The consultant will need to possess strong expertise in HCD, Input/Output Configuration Data Set (IOCDS) management, and Parallel Sysplex (SYSPLEX) environments. This role will support and maintain enterprise IBM mainframe infrastructure in a complex, high-availability production environment.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge of IBM Z hardware configuration, I/O subsystem design, and SYSPLEX architecture (XCF, CFRM, GRS, WLM, JES2/JES3, etc.) along with strong troubleshooting and implementation experience. The consultant will administer, maintain, and support IBM z/OS systems in a production SYSPLEX environment. The administrator will design, implement, and maintain HCD definitions and IOCDS configurations. The consultant will also perform hardware configuration updates, including processor, channel, control unit, and device definitions.

The expected hourly rate range for this role is: $49.50 – $74.75 per hour

Required Skills
- Hands-on experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer / Administrator
- Strong expertise in:
- HCD (Hardware Configuration Definition)
- IOCDS creation and management
- I/O configuration planning and validation
- Deep knowledge of IBM Z hardware architecture
- Proven experience supporting Parallel Sysplex environments
- Experience with multi-LPAR configurations
- Strong troubleshooting skills related to I/O paths, channel subsystems, and device definitions
- Experience performing system IPLs and hardware migrations
- Familiarity with SMP/E, JES2/JES3, WLM, GRS, XCF, and related subsystems
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
