The Position

The Regional Utility Services Department is seeking a Storekeeper 2. This position oversees inventory management within Clean Water Services (CWS) stores. Performs ordering, receiving, storage, distribution, tracking, and shipping of equipment, supplies, parts, and chemicals to ensure timely and accurate support for operational needs.

Essential Functions

  • Receives incoming materials, including but not limited to pumps, valves, fittings, personal protective equipment, laboratory supplies, chemicals, and other materials. Completes the receiving process in Oracle for inventory items.
  • Verifies the quality and quantity of received materials against purchase orders and packing slips. Reports discrepancies, back-ordered items, or damaged materials to procurement or plant management. Notifies staff when orders and parts are received and ready for pickup. Ensures packing slips, bills of lading, receipts, and related documentation are properly distributed and filed.
  • Prepares and packs materials for internal transfers or maintenance tasks. Ships externally a variety of equipment, tools, and other materials for calibration or repair, and handles product returns using both small package and freight shipping methods.
  • Obtains price quotes from vendors for inventory and vendor-managed items in accordance with CWS purchasing rules and guidelines.
  • Prepares purchase requisitions and requests that all information, including tariff and shipping charges, is accurately reflected on the invoice. Drafts required documentation such as sole-source justifications and quotes, and routes to the manager for review and approval. Sends purchase orders to vendors once approved by procurement.
  • Determines new parts to add to inventory using the Spare Parts Procurement Criteria and designates items as inventory or vendor-managed inventory (VMI). Establishes minimum and maximum quantities for all items, assigns stock numbers, and creates barcode labels for bins and shelves. Conducts routine inventory cycle counts and reconciles discrepancies. Monitors critical spare parts and other inventory stock levels.
  • Performs annual inventory counts in coordination with accounting. Participates in the VMI program, including meetings to review usage, replenishment needs, reorder points, and pricing. Processes SharePoint order requests for new inventory additions and updates request status to communicate with customers.
  • Maintains accurate inventory records using the Maintenance Management Inventory System (MMIS) warehouse module. Monitors and reconciles Storeroom transactions daily. Prepares inventory and consumption reports for management review and regulatory audits. Reviews usage reports and recommends inventory quantity adjustments based on consumption trends or changes in lead times.
  • Maintains Storeroom cleanliness, proper labeling, organization, and security. Ensures the safe and compliant storage of chemicals and Universal Waste materials. Sends Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all stored chemicals to the Risk Department and receives guidance from them to ensure proper segregation of incompatible chemicals. Follows all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), environmental, and facility safety protocols.
  • Supports CWS teams to coordinate inventory management and the purchasing process. Assists staff with locating items and trains employees on using kiosks for check-out and check-in procedures.
  • Drives a personal or CWS vehicle for work-related purposes.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including a variety of CWS staff and other government officials, community groups, and the general public

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSES
The following are the minimum qualifications for this position.

3 years of experience in storekeeping, warehousing, purchasing, inventory functions, shipping, and receiving;

College-level coursework or training in materials or asset management, procurement, or a related field.

Candidates must possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license.

Forklift certification required within 6 months of employment.

Depending on hours worked and duration of the position, temporary employees may qualify for an offer of medical benefits, deferred compensation, and employee discounts. Temporary employees are eligible for sick leave at the rate of .0334 per hour worked upon beginning employment and may carry over up to 40 hours into the next calendar year.
