Clayton Services is searching for an Instrument & Control Engineer to join a thriving company in North Houston. The Instrument & Control Engineer will be responsible for designing and supporting instrumentation, controls, and electrical power systems for process and energy projects.

Instrument & Control Engineer Responsibilities:
- Design, specify, and support instrumentation, control, and electrical power systems for industrial process and energy projects
- Prepare, review, and update P&IDs, control narratives, I/O lists, interlock matrices, cause and effect tables, and loop diagrams
- Size and specify instruments, control valves, and related components including pressure, flow, and temperature devices
- Develop and review instrumentation datasheets, wiring schematics, system architecture drawings, and termination drawings
- Design and specify motor control centers, electrical panels, one-line diagrams, and panel schedules
- Configure and support variable frequency drives for pump, compressor, and fan applications
- Select protective relays, circuit breakers, and switchgear for low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems
- Develop, configure, and optimize PLC logic, DCS strategies, HMI graphics, and alarm management systems
- Lead or support FAT, SAT, loop checks, calibration verification, control strategy tuning, and commissioning activities
- Troubleshoot instrumentation, control systems, MCCs, VFDs, and power distribution equipment in the field
- Support energization activities, insulation resistance testing, and pre-startup functional verification
- Maintain calibration records, backups, interlock documentation, drawings, schedules, and version control records
- Train operators and maintenance personnel on instrumentation, controls, VFD operation, MCC safety practices, and arc flash PPE requirements
- Collaborate closely with process engineers, project managers, vendors, clients, and plant personnel
- Other duties as assigned
Instrument & Control Engineer Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation, controls, and electrical engineering principles
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, DCS configuration, and HMI development
- Knowledge of SIL/SIS design and industrial communication protocols
- Experience with control valve sizing, cavitation analysis, and instrumentation selection
- Strong understanding of MCC design, feeder coordination, arc flash labeling, and electrical panel design
- Ability to troubleshoot VFDs, control systems, and power distribution equipment
- Proficiency with applicable codes and standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, ISA, API, and OSHA requirements
- Strong leadership, analytical, strategic, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external partners
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to travel as needed and meet attendance requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Instrument & Control Engineer Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution required
- Minimum 7 years of experience in industrial instrumentation, control, and electrical engineering
- Experience with PLC platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Schneider preferred
- Experience with DCS platforms such as DeltaV, Client Experion, Yokogawa, or ABB preferred
- Experience with HMI development tools and industrial communication protocol configuration
- Industry experience in petrochemical, hydrogen, syngas, or process plant environments strongly preferred
- Professional Engineer license in Electrical Engineering preferred, ideally Texas PE or eligibility to obtain
- ISA Certified Automation Professional or similar certification is a plus
- Experience with SKM PowerTools, ETAP, SCADA integration, HAZOP reviews, and SIL classification studies is a plus
- Prior field commissioning experience in industrial plant environments preferred
