Position: Teacher, Special Educator
Position Summary: Wayland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Special Educator to join our team. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of our youngest learners.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):
- Create a welcoming, inclusive classroom that supports both learning and belonging
- Promote equity and respect for students’ diverse backgrounds and needs
- Lead the IEP process, including meetings, evaluations, and writing compliant IEPs
- Monitor and report student progress regularly and accurately
- Deliver instruction and services aligned with students’ IEP goals
- Provide specialized academic, organizational, and executive functioning support
- Use assessment data to adjust and differentiate instruction
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to support student success
- Participate in professional learning and contribute to team and school initiatives
- Manage the classroom environment and supervise support staff to ensure a safe, effective program
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience: Experience supporting students with diverse disabilities in public school settings, including academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and executive functioning needs
- Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
- DESE Licensure: Must hold valid Massachusetts licensure in: Special Education (appropriate grade level).
- SEI Endorsement: Evidence of Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement is mandatory.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
- Hours: 7:45am-2:45pm
- Salary: Commensurate with the WEA Unit A Salary Scale
- Work Schedule: 2026–2027 School Year; school-year schedule in alignment with the WEA contract Unit A [Example: Master’s through Master’s 30 range $95,754 - $126,651]
